“Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our Witness.” – John 3:11 NKJV
As believers, we’re called to spread the Good News as representatives of Christ. We are effectively the only way that God’s Kingdom is brought to this earth.
Kinda seems like a lot of pressure to perform and act accordingly, doesn’t it?
Imagine how Jesus felt in His ministry here on earth. The Savior of the World. The very Son of God Himself is speaking to us here in John Chapter 3. His Words are life breathing truth, His Life the ultimate example of what it means to be a Witness. He’s ministering to all, healing the sick, giving sight to the blind, and teaching of the very promise that had so long been awaited, and yet the religious leaders still could not receive His Witness.
Continuing in this chapter, a few verses down, we see John the Baptist confirm the words Jesus spoke earlier to Nicodemus in verses 32-33, “And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony. He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true.”
Did this lack of receptivity make the actuality of His Truth and His Witness any less powerful? Absolutely not.
Through the life of Jesus and the early New Testament church we see that walking as a believer, and being a witness to the Good News that is salvation in Jesus Christ is no easy task. It can be so easy to get discouraged and start believing the lie that you are a weak witness for Christ.
Have you ever felt like this way? Like you’ll never be a good enough example. One wrong move and you’ll blow your witness. One misstep and the very people you’ve been praying for won’t believe. Friend, I’m here to tell you that if you are walking with God and filling yourself with His Truth, your witness is far from weak.
Your life, your walk, your testimony is exactly what God needs to reach the very people that He has placed in your life, flaws and all. If I can encourage you in one thing today, I pray it’s this:
The only qualification for being a good witness is, “To testify to truth you have experienced.”
The more of God’s truth that you have inside of you, the easier it is to walk as a witness for Him. Stop creating road blocks with your shortcomings and start putting action behind the very truth that you have seen Him work through you! As you begin walking as a witness, that is testifying to The Truth you have experienced, your life on its own will be a testimony that points others to Christ. Continue to walk today putting feet to your faith and take heart in knowing that as you walk in truth, you’re already walking as a witness to give living proof to the hope of salvation that awaits everyone around you.
Let's Pray...
Heavenly Father, thank you so much for giving us your Word that is alive and breathing. It is absolute and unchanging truth that we can cling on to. As I go into this week, Lord, continue to reveal your truth to me. Speak to my heart. Give me ears to hear and eyes to see so that I can be a witness to the truth that I have experienced through your love for me. Let each step that I take this week be a step in boldness for Your Glory. Guide my path and light the way with Your Word. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
