2 Minutes of Hope March 15, 2021
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." - 1 John 4:9
We all just want to love and be loved. It’s human nature.
But if that’s true, how come love, in this world, is so hard to find?
We see it so plainly in 1 John 4:9 that the understanding of love comes from the knowledge of God. I’m not talking about second hand knowledge. I’m talking about a deep and intimate knowing of the one who made you and the one who loves you.
If you look to the world for love, you’ll be looking your whole life because this world does not know God.
In today’s cancel culture society, you can be loved one minute and absolutely hated the next. The world’s standards for love are fickle, forceful and fake. They continually push you to measure up, just to raise the bar every time you start getting close. To put it plainly, the love of this world will never compare to the love of God.
I think now would be a good time to THANK GOD that He does not love the way the world does. In actuality, when we look to God’s Word for the definition of Love, we’ll see that His very own image is there in the text. And if we look at love as being innately ingrained in God’s very own identity, then we know that He cannot deny Himself! Hallelujah
God’s provided a standard for love that is unchanging, it’s patient, it’s kind, it does not envy, it does not boast (1 Cor. 13:4-7). It’s a love that never fails, never runs out and never ever gives up on us. It’s a love that was shown through the most prolific love story of all time in the sacrifice of His one and only son, Jesus Christ (1 John 4:10).
If we want the real thing, we have to go to the true source. True love can only be found in God, and according to Romans 8:38-39, it’s a love that we can never be separated from. This different kind of love is only available through Him and it’s been made readily available for us.
Be encouraged today in knowing that you are never too far from receiving this love. All you have to do is choose. What source will you plug into? God’s love or the world’s?
Choose today to unplug from the love of this world, plug in to the love of God and watch His love radiate throughout your heart and mind. You will never be the same again.
Let's Pray...
Heavenly Father, thank you so much for your unchanging love. Thank you for not only loving us, but being the true standard of love for us. Thank you for sending your one and only son Jesus as a sacrificial love offering who’s life, death and resurrection echoes throughout eternity.
I choose today to make you my main source of love. Help me to uproot and remove all my pretenses for what love looks like so that I can receive the truest love that can only be found in you. Fill my heart and mind with this love today and let it overflow from my lips this week. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
